Performance and Musical Background
I currently play in the band Walking In The Air, and have deep roots in the local music scene. With my previous band, Drop Electric, I sold out the 9:30 Club and Brooklyn's Knitting Factory multiple times, scored NPR podcasts, and landed music in a 300: Rise of An Empire trailer. Our songs even played in outer space for a documentary premiered on the ISS!
We are also honored to be featured on The Howard Theatre's backstage mural next to Ray Charles and The Roots. I’ve helped build a vibrant DMV music community by hosting and playing in house bands at open jams at Gypsy Sally’s, Iota and Villain & Saint, and I’ve played most major local venues, including The 9:30 Club, The Fillmore, The Kennedy Center, The Black Cat, State Theater, and The Hamilton.
Improvisation is a strong suit of mine—I recently co-hosted official curated jams at the Phish festival Mondegreen, and I’ve played many tribute shows (Dark Side of the Moon, Grateful Dead, Allman Brothers, The Beatles, Radiohead, Phish, Boston, and more).
Teaching Style and Lessons
Though I grew up studying at a jazz and classical conservatory, my teaching style is fun and never stuffy. I am familiar with most musical styles, offering bass lessons for all levels and guitar for beginners or intermediates. Beyond music theory, technique and ear training, I specialize in teaching students how to succeed as working musicians, be versatile, and play many types of gigs.
I am completely comfortable teaching any age group and love working with kids; raising my 7- and 3-year-old and coaching my son's baseball and basketball teams has taught me exactly how to keep younger students engaged. I currently offer Zoom lessons for guitar and bass.
